Has anyone woke up from a vegetative state?
There are only isolated cases of people recovering consciousness after several years. The few people who do regain consciousness after this time often have severe disabilities caused by the damage to their brain.
Why do coma patients cry?
The electroencephalogram (EEG), which measures activity in the cortex, seat of such higher functions as thoughts and emotions, was mentioned by the ambiguity. A comatose patient may open his eyes, move and even cry while still remaining unconscious. His brain-stem reflexes are attached to a nonfunctioning cortex.
How does coma feel like?
Usually, comas are more like twilight states — hazy, dreamlike things where you don’t have fully formed thoughts or experiences, but you still feel pain and form memories that your brain invents to try to make sense of what’s happening to you.
Can you be in a coma for 15 years?
Usually, a coma does not last more than a few weeks. Sometimes, however, a person stays in a coma for a long time — even years — and will be able to do very little except breathe on his or her own. Most people do come out of comas. Some of them are able to return to the normal lives they had before they got sick.
Do you age in a coma?
Yes the person would probably have very healthy organs assuming they didn’t get any other diseases while in the coma but their skin would still wrinkle slightly and look older as we naturally loose the collagen in our skin as we age which gives our skin its bouncy firmness.
